Good economic news about manufacturing

There is finally some positive news to report about manufacturing and the recovery.
According to a report from the Federal Reserve in the Philadelphia area, there are robust signs of improvement in the manufacturing sector, include boosts in shipments and dramatically increased hiring. This is all part of what the Fed calls the Business Outlook Survey. The part of the report covering manufacturing showed a key index had increased from 19.3 in January to 35.9 in February, which was described as the highest gain since 2004. One economist translated that as meaning the “recovery is really taking hold.” Read more here.

leave a comment »

The Studies Office of the Italian woodworking machinery and tools manufacturers’ association, Acimall, published 2010 preliminary woodworking machinery figures.
According to Acimall, production increased by 23 percent from 2009 to 2010, an indication that economic recovery has started though the industry is still suffering. Domestically, apparent consumption rose by 38 percent compared to 2009, thanks to tax allowances of the Tremonti Ter law, according to Acimall. Acimall also reported that imports rose by 46.6 percent over 2009 levels, driven by increasing flows from China and Germany, while exports rose 18.2 percent with shipments to countries such as France, Germany, Belgium and Russia. For 2011, Acimall Studies Office predicts a further increase in production growth between 10 and 15 percent.
