Weinig expands wood processing machinery manufacturing plant in China

leave a comment »

A ceremony for the opening of the expanded manufacturing plant was held in China, attended by Weinig board members.

Weinig AG, www.weinig.com, is expanding its capacity to produce solid wood processing machinery with an addition to the company’s plant in China.
The manufacturing plant, located in Yantai, Shandong province, will expand its current 800 square-meter production area to a total of 12,000 square meters. The expanded plant will produce Unicontrol 6 window machines solely for the domestic market in China, in response to strong growth in China’s wood processing industry. The main factory in Tauberbischofsheim, Germany, will continue to produce the company’s other machinery offerings.
“This means that the expansion of the plant in Yantai will not compete in any way with the production facility in Tauberbischofsheim; on the contrary, it strengthens its position,” said Wolfgang Pöschl, chairman of the board.

NeoCon East hosts successful November show

leave a comment »

The ninth annual NeoCon East drew 6,748 attendees and 267 exhibitors to the Baltimore Convention Center, in November.
“NeoCon East has grown tremendously since it was launched in 2003, which is indication of how important the federal government has become to many manufacturers,” said Mark Falanga, president, MMPI. “We continue to see growth in the number of attendees, which is an 8 percent increase over 2010, as well as the numbers of quality exhibitors. These numbers prove that the NeoCon East show is the largest and fastest growing commercial furnishings exposition on the East Coast.”
Show organizers said that of the 267 exhibitors NeoCon East hosted, 189 were on the GSA schedule, more than any other NeoCon East show. The show also featured government interiors, which focused on products and services geared to federal government procurement specifiers, and a GSA Integrated Workplace Acquisition Center booth on the show floor to assist attendees.
NeoCon East also offered more than 30 CEU-accredited programs in 12 educational tracks. It also offered free 60-minute GSA-sponsored seminars. Keynote speakers included Victor Olgyay of the Rocky Mountain Institute, and Jhane Barnes, men’s fashion designer.
NeoCon East 2012 will return Oct. 17-18, 2012, to the Baltimore Convention Center. For more information visit www.neoconeast.com.

Hooker Furniture, Furnitureland South donate to Susan G. Komen for the Cure

leave a comment »

Hooker Furniture and Furnitureland South jointly presented a check for $1,100 to officials of the N.C. Triad Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The contribution was collected through a month-long charity contest for furniture shoppers, designers and retailers, and a fall High Point Market sweepstakes in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Hooker’s Bedford, Va.-based Sam Moore division custom-produced two modern club chairs covered in a fuchsia pink and green fabric, accented with an ikat kidney pillow. The “Hope” chair was offered as the prize in an online sweepstakes in which both companies jointly made a donation to “Susan G. Komen for the Cure” for each person who became a fan or follower of the two brands via their respective social media channels. A duplicate chair was also displayed in front of the Sam Moore showroom during the international High Point Market in October. The online sweepstakes winner was Mickey Maggiano of Philadelphia, Pa. The winner of the chair on display at the High Point Market was interior designer, Anne Aulbert, of Anne Aulbert Designs in Hillsborough, N.C.
Anna Eichhorn, executive director of the N.C Triad Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, said that 25 percent of the contribution will go directly to finding a cure through breast cancer research “while the balance will be used for breast cancer screening, prevention, education and treatment.”
