Advanced registration, room blocks open for AWFS Fair 2013

The Association of Woodworking & Furnishings Suppliers has opened its room blocks and advanced registration for attendees planning to attend the 2013 AWFS Fair.

According to Kim Roehricht, director of operations, AWFS Fair, “Participants can choose from 17 different properties most of which are under $100 per night, in addition to a couple of luxury resorts including the Wynn and the Palazzo.”

FIMMA furniture industry fair to be held in Brazil in March 2013

The 11th International Fair of Machines, Raw Materials and Accessories for the Furniture Industry, FIMMA, is set to take place March 18-22, 2013, at Parque de Eventos in Bento Gonçalves, Brazil.

The 2013 fair will feature the Innovation Award in three categories: Professional class, Exhibitor class and Student class. It will also feature a number of events for the woodworking industry with companies from around the globe.

GlobalShop to return to Las Vegas in 2014

GlobalShop, the annual trade show for retail design and shopper marketing, announced it will return to Las Vegas in 2014 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, March 18-20, 2014. As one of the country’s fastest growing trade shows, GlobalShop has seen 11 percent attendance growth during each of the past two years and has hosted an expanding expo floor, as well.

“We are excited about the move to Mandalay Bay as it gives us the opportunity to provide a fresh experience in a city that has been a great host to GlobalShop,” said show director, Tim Fearney. “We anticipate continued exhibitor and attendee growth year-over-year as the demand for retail innovation and expansion continues to increase.”

Steelcase features new line of office furniture

In accordance with Steelcase’s concept of portable and small-office situations, the media:scape mobile chair is on wheels and can be moved around the room.

Steelcase has introduced a new concept in office products – Media:Scape -TelePresenceOptions.com reports.

Among their new line are mini chairs that can be placed on top of any surface to make an ordinary space into a collaboration center. Easy to install, they integrate with a single monitor and can be packed in one box.

In accordance with their concept of portable and small-office situations, media:scape mobile chair is on wheels and can be moved around the room. This unit can be tucked away when it is not in use. Users can connect the chair to the laptop and share information by pressing a puck.

Also featured in the new line is the FrameOne bench with integrated video technology. The bench can accommodate up to eight people for collaborative projects.

All of these products can be upgraded to integrate video-conferencing technology for the high-definition office.

Furniture executive moves to appliances

John Winning, CEO of Winning Corp., has appointed David Crane as its new CEO, smarthouse.com reports.

Crane is the former Vice President of International Sales and Business Development at La-Z-Boy furniture in the US. Previously, he worked with Natuzzi Americas and Oceania, where he was located in Australia for two years in sales and management. He also worked at LeatherTrend across production and sales. He now lives in Texas, and his new role as CEO that will bring him back to Australia will begin on December 3.

Design Within Reach opens their largest studio in southern California

Design Within Reach, Inc., has announced the opening of its new 20,400-square-foot studio in Costa Mesa, Calif., according to Equities.com.

The studio marks the company’s entrance into the new retail market in Orange County. Founded in 1998, Design Within Reach (DWR) has built its modern design company to include studios, an e-catalogue, and an e-commerce site. Specializing in mid-century classics, furniture, and accessories, the company has now landed in OC.

“Opening our newest and largest studio in Costa Mesa’s SouthCoast Collection just felt right,” said DWR President and CEO John Edelman. “The roots of modern design in the United States stem from Southern California, and we are proud to continue the story by bringing the best in authentic modern design to Orange County.”

The area, the SouthCoast Collection, is known for its contemporary furniture stores, and is where many design enthusiasts and professionals go to find the latest styles. DWR hopes that by having a studio there, they will bring in more clientele. This will be the largest Studio in the company’s history.

DWR’s furniture collection includes items by Carl Hansen, Cassina, Emeco, Fritz Hansen, Herman Miller, Knoll, Møller and more, as well as pieces by up-and-coming designers. Customers can visualize their custom home in 3D using DWR’s Room Planner. In addition, the new space offers products for the indoor and outdoor California modern style and an area dedicated to the Herman Miller Collection.
