Cepra and Fiera di Milano recently signed a new agreement for the next two editions of Xylexpo, the biennial international exhibition of wood technology and furniture industry supplies, to be held in Milan, Italy.

In the agreement, the FieraMilano-Rho expo center will host the exhibition in May 13-17, 2014, and in May 2016 (specific dates to be announced later). Cepra spa also placed an option for 2018. The decision for the agreement was made by Acimall member companies and feedback from exhibitors and industry professionals.

According to Cepra president, Ambrogio Delachi: “We will keep doing all we can, just like we have done so far, to attract the top representatives of the Italian and global industry to FieraMilano-Rho. The past five years have been a tough test and we believe that, today more than ever, we have to show strong and clear determination to work together, in perfect harmony, so that our exhibition can reaffirm its role of international meeting point and valuable showcase for the best Italian and international technology.”

New housing takes off in February

leave a comment »

New housing starts gained momentum in February, rising 0.8 percent from January to a seasonally-adjusted rate of 917,000, according to USA Today online.

The rate is 27.7 percent above February 2012. Single-family home starts were running at a 618,000 annual rate, up 0.5 percent from January.

Housing starts have now exceeded an annual rate of 900,000 for three consecutive months, according to USA Today, a rate that hasn’t been seen since 2008. However, starts remain well below peak annual rates in excess of 2 million before the housing bubble burst.

Starts are expected to pick up gradually and improve more in the second half, propelled by strengthening demand and a better labor market, TD Economics economist Thomas Feltmate told USA Today. He forecasts housing starts will reach an annual rate of 1 million units by the end of the year.

In contrast, confidence among U.S. homebuilders fell this month because of concerns that increased demand for new homes is exceeding supplies of ready-to-build land, building materials and workers. This could slow sales in the short term, but builders’ outlook for sales over the next six months is stronger than it’s been in over six years.
