Leggett & Platt considers sales of store fixtures business

leave a comment »

Leggett & Platt Inc. announced the appointment of an investment banker to enable the company to consider different alternatives, including divestiture, for its Store Fixtures business. The company also declared that for the second quarter of 2014, it envisions recording pre-tax non-cash goodwill impairment charge of nearly $108 million against the write off of the goodwill related to its Stores Fixtures business.

Leggett’s Store Fixtures business forms a part of its Commercial Fixturing & Components segment. In the last reported quarter, sales of Commercial Fixturing & Components dropped 22.2 percent to $89.9 million mainly due to the absence of specific key Store Fixture retailer programs in 2013. The segment also recorded an operating loss of $2 million for the same reason.

In the last reported earnings, the company forecasted full year earnings in the band of $1.70-$1.85 per share, compared to its previously predicted range of $1.65-$1.85. Its sales for the year are projected to grow in the range of 3 percent-8 percent, between $3.85 billion and $4.05 billion.

IWF promises strong showing

leave a comment »

With more exhibitors, more floor space, and more education sessions, the International Woodworking Fair is set to take over the World Congress Center in Atlanta August 20-23, and there is still time to register and make your plans.

Improving economic indicators are boosting early registrations and exhibitor space reservations, according to show organizers, so the show, which is the largest industry event this year, is expected to reflect rising fortunes in the woodworking industry.

“The show has shown a significant increase in machinery, supplies, materials and software,” said IWF 2014 chairman Rick Hannigan. Attendees will see a wealth of new innovation and technology as suppliers to the industry have been developing and introducing some great new products. Many exhibitors that have skipped the last couple of IWFs are coming back.”

Also new for 2014 are IWF Meet-up Night, IWF After-Hours Program, and IWF Atlanta Hospitality Program. There are also many first-time exhibitors from the U.S. and foreign countries.

There will also be several daylong symposiums offered the day before the show, including a Veneer Symposium sponsored by CabinetMakerFDM.

IWF is Wednesday, August 20 to Saturday, August 23, 2014. Show hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. the first three days, and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, at the Georgia World Congress Center. For more details, visit www.iwfatlanta.com.
