Columbia Forest Products introduces online panel builder

leave a comment »

Columbia Forest Products has launched its Plywood Panel Builder, an easy online tool for fabricators, architects, designers, contractors and consumers to develop their own custom specifications for plywood panels.

Users can customize their plywood’s core materials, panel thicknesses, face and back species, finishes, etc.  Using the tool, customers can view a basic visual representation of the panel products and see the large range of hardwood plywood panels that are possible to order from Columbia.

Speaking about the new Plywood Panel Builder online tool, Todd Vogelsinger, Columbia’s director of marketing remarked, “A key goal in developing this tool is to present the full range of possibilities to buyers in a way that’s easy for them to understand – even if they don’t have extensive experience in spec’ing plywood panels.  It’s a great way to help them address all of the important decisions that go into building a great spec – and ensure that all of their expectations will be met when it comes to the appearance, functionality and durability of their finished pieces.”

The builder can be found here.

Columbia Forest Products reiterates commitment to clean air

In recent weeks, reports from CBS News’ 60 Minutes program and other news outlets have refocused the public’s attention on the health risks of elevated formaldehyde levels that can be present in composite wood products – especially the low-priced versions from countries like China.

In light of these news reports and the concerns that they raise, Columbia Forest Products, a North American supplier of hardwood plywood and veneer, reiterated its commitment to producing quality materials with no added formaldehyde – materials that also support typical “green” building standards.

Nearly a decade ago, Columbia took action to remove added formaldehyde from the manufacture of its hardwood plywood, which is used for making cabinets, shelving, bookcases, entertainment centers and other furniture, as well as paneling and other items for the home and office.

Working with leading scientists, the company developed a proprietary soy-based laminating technology called PureBond.

Todd Vogelsinger, Columbia’s director of marketing, said that people who have become suddenly concerned about formaldehyde due to the recent news reports can breathe easier.  “It has become a lot easier to identify sources of improved composite wood products like PureBond, and those who use them to make beautiful end products.  A whole new class of woodworker has emerged… people who are not only educated about the cleaner, greener options in materials, but who are eager to explain the differences to their customers and prospects,” he said.

“This is resulting in homeowners, designers, and contractors feeling a lot more confident about their choices and their ability to distinguish between no added formaldehyde constructed goods and those made with less discriminating materials,” Vogelsinger added.

Columbia Forest Products, Home Depot offer Purebond Project Panels

leave a comment »

Columbia Forest Products is teaming up with The Home Depot to offer quality American hardwood plywood project panels through an exclusive online program. Purebond Project Panels are formaldehyde-free decorative hardwood plywood panels, available in easy-to-work-with thicknesses, widths and lengths.

The panels are now available in a choice of 12 different unfinished, prefinished and primed hardwood veneer faces, including Maple, and are available as ship-to-home or ship-to-store items from The Home Depot website.

According to Todd Vogelsinger, director of marketing for Columbia Forest Products: “It all starts with the panel size. Our relationships with leading DIY bloggers like Ana White and Shanty-2-Chic have taught us that conventional 4 ft.-by-8 ft. panel sizes can be cumbersome and intimidating – even for people with pickup trucks and workshops.”
PureBond Project Panels are offered in a choice of smaller sizes: 2-by-2-foot, 2-by-4-foot, 2-by-8-foot and 4-by-4-foot. The panels are also offered in three thicknesses: ¼-inch, ½-inch and ¾-inch.

“Panels in these sizes are so much easier for consumers to transport and handle. Quite often, it also reduces waste when they can order in sizes closest to the finished part dimensions they need,” Vogelsinger added. Our goal is to help make woodworking fun, easy and rewarding. Having all these classic veneer-faced options available online gives an added measure of choice and convenience. It removes traditional obstacles and paves the way for many more beautiful, enduring projects to happen.”

PureBond Project Panels are available in these real-wood veneers: Alder, Aromatic Cedar, Cherry, Hickory, Mahogany, Maple (Unfinished and Prefinished options), Oak (Red and White), Poplar (Unfinished and Pre-primed options) and Walnut.

For more information about PureBond Project Panels, contact Kevin Crisp, Columbia Forest Products’ Home Depot account manager, at 800.637.1609 or cfpmarketing@cfpwood.com.
