The Interior Design Society (IDS) is now supporting Design & Construction Week (DCW).

Founding partners, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) will once again co-locate the NAHB International Builders’ Show (IBS) and the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) in Las Vegas, January 19-22, 2016. The third annual event will include two additional official show partners, the International Window Coverings Expo (IWCE) and The International Surface Event (TISE), and is anticipated to draw more than 110,000 industry professionals in the largest residential design and construction exposition in the nation.

Members of IDS will enjoy discounted registration for the event, while the organization’s leaders will participate in the Design & Construction Week Executive Roundtable to discuss issues and trends in the US housing market and exchange ideas with other industry thought leaders.

“As a supporting organization of DCW, we are providing our members with an excellent opportunity to create new connections with vendors, manufacturers and fellow designers,” noted IDS National Executive Director Snoa Garrigan. “It is part of our mission statement that IDS is dedicated to helping our members grow their businesses and participating in events such as DCW has proven to be extremely beneficial to our members.”

“IDS is the leading interior design membership association in the country, so they are a natural fit to take part in Design & Construction Week, the largest annual residential construction event in the nation,” said NAHB Chairman Tom Woods, a home builder from Blue Springs, MO. “We are pleased to be able to welcome them as a DCW Supporting Organization, and look forward to another great show in 2016.”

Registration opens October 1, 2015.

Southern Living unveils classic, modern Idea House

leave a comment »

Located on a Virginia farm, the house features classic southern design with a modern aesthetic.

On June 27, Southern Living, a brand known for celebrating life in the South, will debut its 26th annual Idea House, providing creative ideas and inspiration for prospective and current homeowners.  Located at Bundoran Farm in Charlottesville, Virginia, the home’s partners include interior designer Bunny Williams, Keith Scott and Julie Kline Dixon of The Rosney Company Architects, Jayson Collier of Summit Custom Home and luxury travel and real estate company Natural Retreats. The house is open for public tours until December 27.

“The 2015 Southern Living Idea House brings together some of the most talented names in the business to create a product that truly celebrates southern style,” said Sid Evans, editor-in-chief, Southern Living. “We’re excited to provide our readers with a sourcebook full of inspiration and help them create their ideal living space.”

Award-winning designer and Charlottesville native Bunny Williams approached the house’s interiors from a pragmatic, yet inspired, point of view, creating a space that blends timeless design and quality antiques with a lived-in, collected feeling. Bunny drew elements from the natural climate, such as a red-colored Persian rug in the Entry Hall that matches the red clay in Virginia, and purchased many of the accessories from antique shops in the area. Work by local artists is featured throughout the space, along with new items from Williams’ Ballard Designs line and her first-ever line of beds for Bunny Williams Home collection. The house is emblematic of Williams’ modern vision, a sense of history, and the confidence to take the unexpected path. Both a trailblazer and a tastemaker, Williams’ style is classic, but never predictable.

The 2015 Southern Living idea house is located just fifteen minutes south of Charlottesville and the University of Virginia, at Bundoran Farm by Natural Retreats, a conservation-based development where over 90 percent of the 2,300 acres are protected as a working landscape.

Interior design industry outlook positive

leave a comment »

This week at NeoCon, ASID‘s CEO Randy Fiser presented an overview of the organization’s 2015/16 interior design outlook & state of the industry.

The Interior Design 2015/16 Outlook and State of the Industry report, produced by the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) Research, forecasts continued positive growth for the interior design industry, with several indicators suggesting that design has fully recovered from the recession of 2008. The number of designers and design firms is near or ahead of 2007 figures, and the dollar value of sales and product specified is at record levels. Billings and inquiries are up with positive expectations into next year, and that translates into a hot job market as firms of all sizes and design specialties intend to hire new employees.

“Designers are now expected to solve increasingly complex problems—designing office spaces that encourage health and well-being, integrating multiple generations in one home, minimizing the environmental footprint of a new hotel, or creating retail spaces that utilize the latest technology in an effort to maximize profits,” said Randy Fiser, ASID CEO. “To meet this growing demand, providing proper education, training, and tools is critical. Our goal is to share that knowledge through ongoing research and education.”
