Annual NAFCD + NBMDA convention draws over 700 professionals

Another successful NAFCD + NBMDA Annual Convention took place on November 3-5 at the Hilton Orlando in Orlando, Florida. For the sixth consecutive year the North American Association of Floor Covering Distributors (NAFCD) and North American Building Material Distribution Association (NBMDA) brought together more than 700 distribution professionals throughout the leading floor covering, specialty building material, cabinetry and woodworking industries to network, engage, learn and grow their businesses.

Attendees gained insights on trends in the floorcovering and building products supply chain; learned tips for employee recruitment and retention; discovered how to expand their innovation and strategic thinking; reviewed global economic forecasts; shared best practices with their peers; participated in manufacturer-hosted meetings and social activities; strengthened relationships with current trading partners; built relationships with new partners in one-on-one business meetings.

The 2015 Distribution Management University (DMU), held in conjunction with the convention, had record attendance. In this one day workshop, distribution managers learned proven techniques to increasing gross margin, cash flow and return on investment. Over sixty general, branch and sales managers attended.

Attendees were able to expand their social media knowledge with the help from professional social media coaches. Attendees visited the lounge to receive a complimentary LinkedIn profile refresh including a professional headshot taken onsite.

The roster of nationally recognized speakers was well received by attendees. Speakers provided practical tips, best practices and information on current industry and economic trends that can be immediately implemented into the attendee’s business decisions, giving them a competitive advantage and enhancing their company’s productivity and profitability.

“This year’s education offerings, networking opportunities, industry leaders and executive attendees and exhibitors all contributed to the success of this event,” said Kevin Gammonley, executive vice president of NAFCD and NBMDA. “We are excited to be able to provide an event that fosters the initiation and growth of partnership across the distribution channel.”

The 2016 NAFCD + NBMDA Annual Convention event will take place November 1-3 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago.

Häfele to demonstrate latest technology at Oktoberfest event

Häfele will demonstrate its latest technology at its Oktoberfest event held at the company’s showroom in New York City. The company’s latest offerings in LED lighting, functional hardware and door systems will be featured. Oktoberfest music and refreshments will be offered.

The Oktoberfest event will be held at two different times. Attendees can choose which one to attend. They are:

  • Friday, October 16; 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 17; 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Both will be held at the Häfele NY Showroom located at 25 E. 26th St. New York, New York 10010. The showroom is across the street from Madison Square Park.

IFTLC celebrates 55th annual conference with keynote speaker

Otis Sawer, La-Z-Boy senior vice president, will express the importance of logistics at annual conference.

International Furniture and Transportation Logistics Council Inc. (IFTLC) is celebrating the 55th anniversary of its annual conference from May 12 – 15, at Lago Mar Resort in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. To mark the occasion, Otis S. Sawyer, President of England Inc., senior vice president of La-Z-Boy’s non-branded Upholstery, and president, La-Z-Boy Logistics Inc. will deliver the keynote address, broaching the important role of logistics for domestic furniture manufacturers.

The annual IFTLC event provides attendees with insight on innovative technologies, new trends, and the latest legislation that may impact their businesses. This year’s conference will focus on regulations impacting home delivery, the issues facing land shippers and ocean freight, and how the Internet is ushering in a smart and interconnected era for the industry.

“For many, home deliveries have become increasingly complex, with companies like Amazon, Wayfair and Overstock tipping the online retail scales,” says Russ Matthews, managing director, of IFTLC. “Our goal with this conference is to continue to equip our members with the latest information affecting our entire industry, and to help them stay competitive in a market that’s constantly evolving.”

The 2014 NAFCD + NBMDA annual convention will bring together distributors, manufacturers and service providers from the floor covering, specialty building material, cabinetry and woodworking industries to network, learn and grow business. The convention is planned for Nov. 18-20 at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel in Texas.

Highlights of the event will include an NAFCD Executive Networking Forum and NBMDA Tabletop business sessions.

Wood Machining Institute to host saw workshop Oct. 14-15 in Portland, Ore.

The Wood Machining Institute will host a Workshop on Design, Operation and Maintenance of Circular and Band Saws in Portland, Ore., at the Red Lion Hotel and Convention Center, on Oct. 14-15. The workshop will provide attendees with up-to-date information necessary to increase company’s profits by maximizing sawing accuracy and the rate of sawing, and by reducing kerf losses, downtime and saw equipment maintenance costs, in addition to covering safety and ergonomic issues.

Issues to be explored include: economics of sawing variation and on-line sawing performance control; impact of steel characteristics on cutting saw blade performance; circular and band saw stiffness and stability, and computer software for critical speed calculation; advances in saw tensioning and tension evaluation; identifying what you stand to gain and lose by changing saw design; on-line measurement and analysis of sawing performance and sawing accuracy; pushing the boundaries of band saw performance; economics of advanced cutting tool materials and troubleshooting procedures; and key maintenance criteria.  The workshop faculty, experts from the U.S. and Canada, will combine lectures, video presentations and demonstrations of computer software to address problems and suggest solutions in operating and maintaining circular and band saws and sawing equipment.

International Conference on Wood Adhesives held October 9-11, 2013

The International Conference on Wood Adhesives will be held October 9-11, 2013 at the InterContinental Toronto Center in Toronto, Canada. The conference will allow adhesive researchers, suppliers, users and members of the industry, academia, government and other organizations to interact with leaders in the field from around the world and hear about latest developments.

The Wood-Based Composites Center is hosting an interactive session on the research needs of the wood-based composites industry, with an open dialogue with industry and academic participants.
